wrote about driving habits in the town he just moved in. Well, I'll just say this: I feel your pain - here in south of France (Cote d'Azur) it doesn't get any better than that.
Besides fast driving (especially on highways), another insane detail is that many small crossroads are not marked with signs, so whoever comes to you from the right has priority. Having said that, you still wouldn't expect this "super default rule" to be enforced once you enter the roundabout, but it is in my small town - people entering the roundabout will assume priority. This makes summers entertaining as I watch poor tourist in their rented cars struggle with locals ;)
Luckily, many drivers are still old school in that they will always let you in if there is a huge queue for whatever reason, and people do slow down around schools. But not to be too nice, many will pass through red light in the first second or two of being red, and consequently nobody really starts immediately after it turns green - supposedly waiting for those passing though red to pass by :((
Another note on roundabouts - French are obsessed with them, and seem to think they simplify traffic (so they don't have to put up a traffic light) so they put them everywhere. I think I pass at least 7 on my way to work, and there's only 11Km!
